Baseball Has Successful Start to Season in Millington

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team played three games this weekend in Millington, Tenn. in the Perfect Game Invitational. Friday Feb.14, the Blue Devils took on Hinds Community College, followed by a game against Jefferson College later in the day. Due to weather conditions, the games scheduled for Saturday were moved to Sunday when the Blue Devils took on Arkansas State University-Mountain Home.

In the first game, the Blue Devils started off hot by scoring three runs in the first two innings. Then in the bottom of fifth inning, Freddie Nolen IV opened the flood gates and hit a grand slam to make it 7-2 in favor of KCKCC. Nolen IV went 2-4 from the plate, had four RBIs and got walked once. Tanner Pachorek also had a multi-hit game as he went 2-3 from the plate, hit a homerun and recorded two RBI's.

Bryson Vawter started and went five innings, allowing just two runs from the three Hinds hits. He managed to strikeout eight batters as well. Caleb Deer threw the final two innings, didn't allow a single hit and struck out one batter. the Blue Devils were able to take down Hinds with a final score of 8-2.

For the second game, the Blue Devils struggled at the plate and recorded just four hits while striking out 14 times. Pachorek recorded his first triple of the season while going 1-3 from the plate. Cade Parry, Ian Woita and Sawyer Tolk were the other three players who recorded a hit.

Jake Titus was the starting pitcher and went 4.2 innings while letting in two runs from the three Jefferson College hits. Titus managed to strike out a total of 11 batters in his 19 batters he faced. Caden Howell and Dylan Blazer threw for the final 1.1 innings and let up just one run, four walks and struck out three batters. The Blue Devils fell to Jefferson with a final score of 3-0.

For the third game, John Caime and Woita both had multi-hit games and combined for three RBIs. Frankie Santiago, Carter Towns, Caime and Pachorek all recorded a double. Braden Horn hit his first collegiate home run and went 1-2 from the plate while recording two RBI's.

Caleb Reed threw for five innings and allowed one run from three hits. He struck out six batters and walked two. Jose Toledano and Avery Oravetz finished things off in the final two innings and allowed just two hits, one walk and struck out four batters. The Blue Devils took down ASU Mountain with a final score of 7-1.
