DMACC baseball team drops doubleheader to Iowa Central

 

The DMACC baseball team fell to 7-14 overall and 1-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) after losing both games of a doubleheader against Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) March 22 at the DMACC baseball diamond.

 

ICCC, ranked 22nd in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), won by scores of 6-4 and 14-3.

 

ICCC won the opener behind two runs in the first and four in the seventh. DMACC tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and added single runs in the fourth and seventh innings.

 

The Bears were limited to just three hits, getting home runs from sophomores Colin Driscoll of Waukee and Kaden Frommelt of Marion. Sophomore Matt Rivers of Colfax added a single for DMACC. Frommelt drove in two runs and Driscoll had one RBI.

 

Sophomore Ty Thompson of Council Bluffs pitched the first five and a third innings for the Bears, allowing two runs on two hits with 11 strikeouts and five walks. Freshman Gage Miller of Mandan, N.D., fell to 0-3 with the loss. He went two-thirds of an inning, allowing two runs with one strikeout and one walk. Freshman Jordan Leininger of Fargo, N.D., went a third of an inning, allowing one run on one hit and sophomore Bobby Uthe of Ames allowed one run on one hit and walked two batters but was not credited with any innings pitched. Freshman Andrew Theiss of Clear Lake pitched two-thirds of an inning and struck out one of the two batters he faced.

 

ICCC led 1-0 after two innings in the second game and closed out the win with three runs in the fifth, three in the seventh and seven in the eighth. DMACC scored one run in the bottom of the third and two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

 

The Bears had five hits in the game, including a double by freshman Archer Ogbourne of Carlisle and a triple from freshman Trey Franck of Marion. Franck collected an RBI for DMACC.

 

Sophomore Jaqson Tejada of Marion went the first four and a third innings for the Bears and fell to 0-1 with the loss. He allowed four runs on two hits, struck out 10 and walked three. Freshman Rhett Pleggenkuhle of Van Meter went two thirds of an inning, walking three batters and striking out one and Theiss pitched one inning, allowing two runs with one strikeout and one walk. Freshman Zack Turpin of Waukee also pitched one inning, allowing one run and walking two batters and freshman Carter Hines of Fruita, Colo., allowed three runs and walked two batters and was not credited with any innings pitched. Freshman Eli Christensen of Ankeny pitched one inning and allowed four runs on four hits with one strikeout and one walk.

 

The DMACC and ICCC baseball teams will play a single game at 3 p.m. today at the DMACC baseball diamond. The game was originally scheduled for March 23 but was moved to today because of inclement weather.
