Sharks celebrate Sophomore Night against Polk
The Miami Dade Sharks volleyball team extended their remarkable season with a 3-0 sweep over Polk State College. The Sharks showcased their resilience, winning each of the first two sets by narrow margins, 27-25, before dominating the final set 25-14.
Miami Dade's balanced offense shone with Esthefany Rabit leading the charge, achieving an impressive hitting percentage of .615 with nine kills on 13 attempts. Luiza Da Cruz added six kills on seven attempts without an error, posting a stellar .857 hitting percentage. Angelica Rodriguez and Luyeisy Marquez contributed with eight and seven kills, respectively, while setter Maria Clara Antunes tallied 13 assists and Luiza Da Cruz added another 22.
Defensively, Mia Martinez anchored the back row with a game-high 24 digs, consistently keeping rallies alive and limiting Polk State's offensive opportunities. Miami Dade's front line was equally effective, as the Sharks totaled 22 block assists, with Rabit contributing six block assists and Paulina Agudelo Marin adding three.
Despite a strong first set from Polk State, where they recorded a .282 hitting percentage, Miami Dade's persistent pressure wore them down. Polk struggled in the latter sets, ultimately finishing with a .124 hitting percentage for the match.
The Sharks now await the winner of Hillsborough and Eastern Florida to see who they'll face in the semifinals of the FCSAA Region 8 State Tournament.
