NICK IN DOUBLE FIGURES AGAIN AS HAWKS FALL TO EAGLES SATURDAY

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College men's basketball team traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa Saturday for a contest with No. 2 Kirkwood Community College. The Hawks fell in the matchup by a final score of 85-67.

Northeast (3-13, 0-9 ICCAC) went toe-to-toe with the nationally-ranked Eagles as the Hawks shot 48.1-percent from the field compared to the 50.9-percent from Kirkwood. Northeast also shot a perfect 11-for-11 from the free-throw line as Vincent Garrett (Lincoln, Neb.) led the way in scoring for the Hawks with 20 points. Collin Nick (Lincoln, Neb.) was in double figures for his third-straight game as he tallied 13 points in the showdown.

Head Men's Basketball Coach Josh Clark on the battle against No. 2:

"We want to hang our hat on being the hardest playing team in the conference," Clark said. "Tonight, we played hard, we just need to cut down on fouls and keep our composure. We're getting better each game. Kirkwood had to make shots late to keep the game extended and we made them work for all they could. If we can defend late into the clock without fouling, we'll be a better team."

Clark on taking on No. 6 DMACC next for the second time this year:

"Looking forward to our rematch with DMACC," Clark said. "We are a tough team to play when we're at our best, and we've shown signs of that. We'll be ready for the Bears on Wednesday."

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will return home and will take on No. 6 Des Moines Area Community College at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
