No. 2 JCCC downs No. 20 Neosho County 99-66 in conference opener

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2- ranked Johnson County Community College women's basketball team's quest to win a fifth straight conference title got off to a strong start with a 99-66 win over No. 20 Neosho County Community College Saturday afternoon at JCCC Gymnasium. It was JCCC's second home victory over a top-20 ranked team in three days. 

The Cavaliers jumped out to a big first quarter lead and cruised to the 33-point win while increasing their home court win streak to 81 straight games. 

Freshman guard Jamya McPherson paced Johnson County with 21 points, connecting on 6-of-9 shots, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range. She also made 5-of-6 at the free throw line. McPherson also grabbed four rebounds to go along with three assists.

Sophomore guard Taliyah Scott followed with 18 points and six assists sophomore forward Yar Manyiel added 16 points and had a game-high nine rebounds. 

JCCC also got solid contributions from Maizen Williams (8 points, 3 rebounds), Aryanna Grassity (7 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds), Kara Stricklin (6 points), Heaven Smith (6 point, 6 steals), Aa'Maya Stacker (6 points, 6 rebounds), Tamia Smith (5 points, 6 rebounds) and Layla Scott (6 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals). 

Audry Smith was the only Neosho County player to reach double figures finishing with 10 points. 

Johnson County (16-0, 1-0) travel across town to take on rival Kansas City Kansas Community College (10-7) on Wednesday evening.  They return home to host Highland Community College (16-0, 1-0) on Saturday, January 18 at 2 p.m.
