Delta College softball earned a road split against Mid Michigan College on Sunday, dropping the opener 5-2 before bouncing back with an explosive 12-7 win in Game 2 behind a dominant offensive performance and balanced pitching effort.
Game 1: Mid Michigan 5, Delta 2
Delta struggled to find early offense in the first game, remaining scoreless through six innings before a late rally in the seventh.
Jolie Buschlen provided the Pioneers' biggest hit of the game with a two-RBI double in the final frame, but the comeback fell short. Delta finished with five hits, led by Hannah Hycki, Megan Mankey, and Izabel Lathrom, each collecting one.
Geena Gauthier was solid in the circle, going six innings with nine strikeouts and allowing just two earned runs. However, three Delta errors proved costly as Mid Michigan capitalized with three runs across the third through fifth innings.
Game 2: Delta 12, Mid Michigan 7
The Pioneers flipped the script in Game 2, erupting for seven runs in the third inning and never looking back.
Kortney Kotenko went a perfect 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a double, while Alicia Candelaria and Katie Chinavare also drove in two runs apiece. In total, Delta racked up 11 hits and took full advantage of five Mid Michigan errors.
Three Pioneer pitchers combined to secure the win, with Cadence Swartz earning the victory after tossing the first three innings. Eliana Rodriguez and Gauthier finished out the final four frames to hold off a late push from the Lakers.
