Jayhawks defeats Kirltand
Anna Lundquist paces MCC with another 21 point 13 rebound double double
The Muskegon Lady Jayhawks traveled up to Kirtland Community College to play the Firebirds in another rematch for the conference season and their last non-tournament away game for the season.
The Lady Jayhawks came out with a couple mistakes in the beginning but did not let that set the tone of the game. Much like when they hosted Kirtland, they had strong intensity and lots of pressure on the defense, fast breaks and solid finishes for their offense, many rebounds, and great steals. For the first half of the game, the Jays kept the Firebirds to only 13 points. Post halftime the Jayhawks did not be turndown the pressure, using the game as an opportunity to prepare for the post conference season. The team found a decent flow to bring home another win this conference season over Kirtland of 61-34.
Top performers of the game were Anna Lundquist (#30) with 21 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal. Tyvi Davis (#23) with 11 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 5 steals. Jayna Edmonson (#2) with 11 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. And Arrionna Williams (#20) with 5 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals.
Head Coach Jason Cooper said "Today was a good win for our team. It was another opportunity to get better and prepare for post conference play. We have a lot more work to do in order to play the teams at the next level we are trying to reach, but we have a team that's willing to strive for that."
The Lady Jayhawks play Tuesday, February 25th at home @5:30 where they will be celebrating their sophomores.
