#23 Red Ravens Take Down #5 Butler 70-61 in Road Victory

El Dorado, Kan. - The #23 NJCAA-ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Basketball Team opened their 2025 Spring semester with a road 70-61 road victory over the #5 Butler Grizzlies.  With the victory, the Red Ravens improved their overall record to 11-3 including a 7-1 mark in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) games.

Coffeyville scored the first 6 points to lead 6-0 three minutes into the game.  Butler responded with a 16-0 run to take a 16-6 lead with eleven minutes remaining in the first half.  The Red Ravens responded themselves to tie the game at 21-21 with a little over six minutes left in the first half.  Coffeyville finished the half strong to take a 33-31 halftime lead.

Coffeyville never trailed by more than two points in the second half and outscored Butler 19-10 in the final 6:30 of the game to secure the 70-61 victory.

Coffeyville (7-1), Butler (7-1), and Cowley (8-1) all have just one conference loss atop the league standings with no unbeaten teams remaining in the 13-team league.

Coffeyville's defense forced Butler into a season-high 26 turnovers in the game.

Game leaders for the Red Ravens included sophomore guard Justin Taylor with 18 points, freshman Trenton Ruth with 11 points, and sophomore Brian Griffith with 10 points and 5 assists. Freshman Abdul Kata had seven points and 10 rebounds.

Coffeyville will return to action on Wednesday, January 8th with a home matchup scheduled against the Pratt Beavers.  Tipoff in Nellis Gymnasium is set for 7:30 p.m.
