No. 16 JCCC splits doubleheader with No. 22 Iowa Central

Playing their final non-conference opponent for the season, the No. 16-ranked Johnson County softball team split a double header with No. 22-ranked Iowa Central last week. The Cavaliers opened the series with a 6-3 victory, but Iowa Central handed JCCC a 6-4 loss in the second game.

In the opener Izzy Carter went 3-for-4 with an RBI, Katie Kolarik was 2-for-2 with a double and RBI and Janele Lang was had two hits including a solo home run.  Reagen Neitzel and Jaylee Jefferson also belted solo shots over the fence.

Right-hand pitcher Brielle Dee earned a complete-game victory, allowing three runs, two unearned, with six strikeouts over seven innings. Her six strikeouts tie her season high. With the win, Dee stands 5-4 on the season.

In the final game, Neitzel and Lang each had an RBI and Aspen Burgardt belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game.

JCCC stands 13-10. They open conference play Thursday at home against Labette.
