Cape Fear Men's Basketball
Cape Fear vs Brunswick
Cape Fear wins 85-83
Highlights: In a game filled with momentum swings and clutch performances, the Cape Fear Community College men's basketball team battled to a hard-fought 85-83 victory over Brunswick. The matchup remained tight from start to finish, with both teams exchanging scoring runs and neither able to pull away for long.
Early in the first half, the physical nature of the game became evident. Brunswick quickly racked up seven team fouls with just under nine minutes remaining, giving Cape Fear early trips to the free-throw line. However, as the half progressed, the Sea Devils found themselves in their own foul trouble, allowing Brunswick to even things up at the line before heading into halftime.
The second half was a back-and-forth with each possession carrying weight. Cape Fear found success from beyond the arc, particularly through Jefferson McLamb, who came up big in crucial moments. Brunswick responded with strong inside play, refusing to let Cape Fear gain full control. But the Sea Devils' defense tightened in the final minutes, forcing turnovers that quickly turned into fast-break points.
Even with the Dolphins battling to the final whistle, Cape Fear executed down the stretch, making clutch shots in times of need, coupled with a solid defensive spread and strong rebounding. Brunswick had one last opportunity to tie or take the lead in the closing seconds, but Cape Fear's defense locked things down, sealing the hard-earned victory.
AuMauri Tillman led the charge with 27 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. JJ Moore was the most team-oriented player of the night with 9 assists, 4 defensive rebounds, and 2 steals. Cooper Hawk and Caleb Gilmore tallied 13 points between them and helped work the ball around efficiently. Avion Pinner made 5 jumpers and 4 free throws with 8 total rebounds and 2 steals.
