Pioneers Take Game One

Pioneers Take Game One

FORT PIERCE, FL- Indian River State College defeats Santa Fe College 14–6 in eight innings. Indian River improves to 13-6 overall and 4-3 in Citrus Conference play. Early scoring by both teams made it a back-and-forth game until the sixth inning, when the Pioneers pulled ahead and never looked back. In the eighth, the Pioneers scored five runs on five hits to end the game via the mercy rule.

Matty Davis drove in four runs on three hits, including a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game out of reach for the Saints. The offense as a whole was on fire, collecting 22 hits—a season high for the Pioneers. Indian River saw eight different hitters record multiple hits in the game, and four different hitters had multiple RBIs.

On the mound, two sophomores combined for eight innings, striking out eight. Sammy Beir earned the win, not allowing a run over three and a third innings of work. Beir has now gone seven consecutive innings in relief without surrendering a run.

The Pioneers will head to Gainesville on Saturday, March 1 to wrap up the series with Santa Fe.
