Chargers rally vs. Prairie State for first win, fall to Lake County at CLC Lancer Classic

GRAYSLAKE — The Sandburg women's basketball team rallied past Prairie State for its first victory of the season before losing to host Lake County at the CLC Lancer Classic on Friday and Saturday.

FRIDAY
Sandburg 54, Prairie State 51

The Chargers trailed 29-20 at halftime and 42-38 entering the fourth quarter before outscoring the Pioneers 16-9 in the last 10 minutes.

Sophomore forward Brook Pieper had team highs of 12 points and 15 rebounds in the win, and freshman Layni Dobbins knocked down three 3-pointers while finishing with 11 points.

Sandburg shot 27 percent (18 of 66) from the floor but outrebounded Prairie State 52-28, including a 20-6 edge on the offensive glass.

SATURDAY
Lake County 63, Sandburg 57

Sandburg's comeback attempt fell short after the Chargers trailed 33-23 at halftime and by as many as 20 points in the third quarter against the unbeaten Lancers.

Freshman Antonia Kisler had a team-best 13 points off the bench for Sandburg. The Galesburg graduates hit three 3s, grabbed five rebounds and handed out four assists.

Pieper had 11 points and nine rebounds while going 5 of 12 from the floor. Paige Huffman hit a pair of 3s and finished with eight points.

Lake County's Maren McCallister had a game-best 27 points and went 10 of 12 from the free-throw line. The Lancers outrebounded the Chargers 57-30.
