LAMAR, Col. - Colby Community College Trojans Women's basketball team lost a back-and-forth contest 55-53. The new faces of the Trojan roster received a valuable playing-on-the-road lesson in execution, focus, and not taking possessions off.
The game was a back-and-forth contest, seeing the lead change hands several times for 40 minutes. The usual stingy Trojan defense was there, making it tough for the home Lopers. The offensive end was a challenging all game as the Trojans found themselves stagnant too much and watching rather than attacking the 3-2 zone of the home team. Through it all, the Trojans would build an eight-point midway through the fourth period, only to commit a few costly turnovers, which were scored on. Down the stretch, the Trojans executed a late possession to make a 3-point shot to get the game to a point deficit, and that's where it would end.
"Hopefully, we learned some things about ourselves tonight in a tough road environment against a well-coached and scrappy team. We need our experienced players to carry the load for us early this season, and we can't afford them not to focus on the task at hand. Our five sophomores can all compete and lead the way for us, allowing our newcomers to grow as we move forward. It's just one game, and we will bounce back and grow from it", stated Coach Spence.
The Trojans return to action on Sunday, November 10, at 2:00 p.m., at home against the Kansas Wesleyan varsity reserve team.
