Lady Senators stay unbeaten in TCCAA play with 70-32 win over Cleveland State

MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State held Cleveland State to just nine points in the first half on Wednesday evening, going on for a 70-32 victory over the Cougars. 

With the win, the Lady Senators improved to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in TCCAA play.

"We did a great job on the defensive end holding them to just nine points in the first half," Walters State coach Jasmin Coleman said. "We just have to continue to get this young team better." 

Leading the way for Walters State was Terryauna Griffin with 19 points, eight steals and five rebounds. Along with Griffin, Kyra Perkins had 17 points, nine rebounds and four steals and Nyjah Gibbs had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. 

Other contributors were Raegan Starks with nine points, six rebounds and three assists, Ellie Linx with seven points, Jahliya McDonald with six points and five rebounds and Morgan Williams with two points and three rebounds. 

The Lady Senators came out quick and led 12-3 after the opening quarter against Cleveland. Griffin and Gibbs each had four points in the quarter, while Perkins and McDonald each had two. 

In the second, the Lady Senators continued to play good defense and grabbed a 31-9 advantage at the break. Linx and Perkins each hit two 3-pointers in the second, while Griffin had four points. 

The third was much of the same for the Lady Senators, leading 49-20 going to the final 10 minutes. Perkins and Griffin continued to play well, Perkins with six points and Griffin with five in the quarter. McDonald had four points, as well.

In the fourth, Walters State put up their highest scoring quarter of the game with 21 points as they cruised to the win. Starks scored all nine of her points in the final 10 minutes, while Griffin added six points.
