LEESBURG, Fla. (Softball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball split their Friday double header with St. Petersburg College (SPC). The Lakehawks took a close game one 3-2 while the Titans won game two 13-5 in five innings.
Game 1 – SPC 2, LSSC 3
After a 1-0 lead from St. Petersburg in the top of the first, Megan Wright led off the bottom half of the frame with a double to right field. A single up the middle from Savannah Ellis scored Wright to tie up the score.
With Ellis on second, Shannen Luksha blasted a triple to right center to take the lead 2-1.
The Titans tied up the score at 2-2 with a pair of base hits in the top of the third.
In the bottom of the third, the Lakehawks took the lead after a sacrifice fly from Luksha scored Wright from third.
Luksha went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Ellis went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Duquette recorded the win on the mound to record her first win of the season. In four innings of work, she allowed two runs on three hits with two strikeouts.
Amy Bak recorded the save after entering the game in the fifth. She held the Titans to no runs and just one hit in the final three innings.
Game 2 –SPC 13, LSSC 5 (5 innings)
The Titans came out swinging in game two outhitting the Lakehawks 16 hits to six. SPC had an 8-0 lead over Lake-Sumter early in the game, after scoring three runs in the first, two in the second, and three in the third
The Lakehawks put one on the board in the third and started a short rally in the fourth to trail 8-5, but the Titan's five runs in the top of the fifth was enough to shut down the Lakehawks for a mercy rule win.
Ellis recorded the loss on the mound after pitching the first two innings. She allowed five runs on five hits and two walks. Ellis is now 0-2 in the circle so far this season.
With one win on Friday afternoon, the Lakehawks move to a 3-5 record on the year.
