Cyclones take down Pioneers to advance in playoffs

Against a team they hadn't defeated all season, the Cyclones stepped up the pressure to take down Prairie State College 69-62 in the NJCAA Region 4 Division II District B playoffs.

After being down 23-6 in the first quarter, the Cyclones made some adjustments and started force-feeding the post. From that point on, the Pioneers were not athletic enough to guard the strength of Shakila Brownlow and Jadea Johnson. The Cyclones won the remaining quarters, nearly doubling the points the Pioneers had in the fourth (27-15) and ultimately advancing to the semifinals.

Brownlow and Johnson had tag-team effort with Brownlow scoring 18 points and grabbing nine rebounds and Johnson scoring 17 with eight rebounds. Robin Stevenson continued playing well with 13 points and eight rebounds. Deniza Fuentes had six rebounds and four assists.

The Cyclones continue their playoff run at Rock Valley College on Saturday, March 1, against conference champion College of Lake County.
