The Lumberjack Women's Basketball team overcame a 14-point first half deficit to defeat the North Dakota State College of Science Wildcats 90-86 Sunday afternoon.
The Jacks and the Wildcats both struggled from the field in the early going. DCB got into foul trouble as the first quarter progressed. This allowed the Wildcats to take 12 free throw attempts. The Wildcats pulled away in the second quarter stretching the lead out to 14. The Jacks didn't go away and were able to cut the deficit to seven at 37-30.
The Jacks got the offense rolling coming out of the halftime break. Amari Butler and Terayna Tapija-Jones combined for 22 of the teams 31 points in the quarter to cut the Wildcats lead to just one. Butler would tie the game 66-66 with 7:30 to play in the game. A Kiara Comeaux and-1 would give the Jacks their first lead in a long time at 72-70 with 5:40 remaining. The Jacks would never surrender the lead for the remainder of the game, winning by a final score of 90-86.
Butler would lead all scorers with 36 points. She was joined in double figures by Tapija-Jones who had 17. Comeaux finished with 14 points, 13 assists, and 10 rebounds for a triple double. Demi Van Gils led the Wildcats with 20 points.
The Jacks improve to 11-12 overall and 3-6 inside the Mon-Dak DCB hosts Lake Region tonight at 5:30p.m.
