Sharks Rally Late to Defeat St. Petersburg 5-2
Miami Dade came through in the clutch, scoring three runs over the final two innings to break a 2-2 tie and defeat St. Petersburg College 5-2 on the road.
The Sharks started strong in the first inning with Caroline Mito scoring on an error, followed by Dana Piri's RBI triple that brought home Amanda Handa for an early 2-0 lead. But St. Petersburg answered right back in the bottom of the frame, tying the game with back-to-back RBI singles from Emiy Pearce and Ella Carroll.
From there, it turned into a pitching duel. Miami Dade ace Carina Amarilla held firm, scattering 10 hits over seven innings with nine strikeouts and no walks, earning her first win of the season. She kept the Titans off the board after the first inning, working around traffic with poise.
The tie finally broke in the sixth when Ty Marie Cervantes lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Gabriela Luz and putting the Sharks ahead 3-2. The following inning, Caroline Mito pulled off a gutsy steal of home to add insurance, and Piri delivered again with a clutch RBI single to right, plating Emma Van Arman for the 5-2 final.
Mito was unstoppable at the top of the lineup, going 4-for-4 with two runs and three stolen bases. Piri added two hits and three RBIs, while the Sharks' defense played clean behind Amarilla, committing no errors.
