Suns Knock Off No. 15 Blazers for 10th Win

LANCASTER, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley men's basketball team won its third straight game, knocking off No. 15 nationally-ranked Dallas College North Lake Saturday, 76-64.

It was Cedar Valley's first win over North Lake since an 80-66 triumph over the Blazers in the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season on March 13, 2021.

The win to open the third of Dallas Athletic Conference action bumped the Suns to 10-13 overall, 4-7 in the Dallas Athletic Conference to move into fourth place in the league, a game behind Dallas College Brookhaven. North Lake fell to 12-14 overall, 7-4 in the DAC.

Chris Vela scored a season-high 30 points, going 7-for-12 from the 3-point line in 28 minutes. Josh Beall added 15 points on 7 of 13 shooting, and blocked two shots. Armani Reese had 11 points, nine boards and three blocks, giving the Suns three starters in double figures.

The Suns outscored the Blazers, 48-35, in the second half. The Suns shot 47 percent from the field, while knocking down 10 of 16 triples. They had 18 assists on 31 buckets.

Cedar Valley will play at No. 12 Dallas College Richland (17-8, 9-2) at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The Suns' final home game is 1 p.m. Feb. 15 against Brookhaven. The regular season ends Feb. 22 at Eastfield. The National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South Central District Tournament runs Feb. 25-March 1.
