Highlanders wallop Western Texas
The McLennan Highlanders walloped the Western Texas today at Bosque River Ballpark to complete the three-game series sweep of the Westerners.
McLennan defeated Western Texas 13-3 in the opening game of the day with Gage Goldman getting the win in the circle.
Western Texas scored two in the top of the first. Ben Blanchard single but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Alfonso Camacho. David Castillo followed with a double, scoring Blanchard. Nolan Hunt then singled to score Castillo.
McLennan took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the first. Owen Smith walked and Daniel Harden doubled. Deiten Lachance singled to score Smith, and Ty Waid followed with a three-run homer.
The Highlanders added two more runs in the second. Smith singled and Harden walked. Waid then singled to score Smith, and Harden scored on a wild pitch.
The Westerners final run came with Camacho's solo home run to lead off the third.
McLennan tacked on five runs in the fifth. AJ Goytia, Jackson Irons and Owen Egan all walked. Cage McCloud followed with the grand slam. Brecken Menuet then singled, stole second and third and scored on a single by Harden.
The final two Highlander runs came in the bottom of the sixth. Waid reached on an error but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Goytia. Irons followed with a two-run homer.
McLennan slammed the Westerners 25-4 in the nightcap with Logan Harris getting the win on the mound.
Western Texas scored two in the top of the first. Camacho hit a solo home run, and Gage Dorris reached on an error. Caven Fuentes then doubled to score Dorris.
The Highlanders put six on the board in the bottom of the first. Smith was hit by the pitch and Harden singled. Smith scored on a fielder's choice by Lachance that put Harden out second. Waid was hit by the pitch, and McCloud doubled to score Lachance and Waid. Walker Freeman followed with double to score McCloud. Abdiel Hernandez-Sostre singled and McClane Helton walked. Menuet followed with a fielder's choice, putting Freeman out at the plate but Hernandez-Sostre scored on the throw. Smith then singled to score Helton.
Five McLennan runs scored in the second. Harden was hit by the pitch, and LaChance singled. Both runners advance on the throw, scoring Harden. Waid singled and Lachance scored on a wild pitch. McCloud then singled to score Waid. Freeman followed with a two-run homer.
The Highlanders added another five runs in the third. Smith led off with a solo home run, and Harden was hit by the pitch again. Lachance was also hit by the pitch. McCloud then doubled to score Harden. Freeman was hit by the pitch and Hernandez-Sostre walked. , scoring Lachance. Helton then singled to score McCloud and Freeman.
The Westerners added a run with a Jacob Caraway home run in the fourth.
McLennan answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Lachance reached on an error and Goytia singled. Freeman doubled to score Lachance, and Helton doubled to score Goytia and Freeman.
Six more Highlander runs scored in the sixth. Helton and Menuet both walked and scored on a Marcus Smith home run. Brody Chyr walked and Owen Egan singled. McCloud doubled to score Chyr, and Egan scored on a passed ball. Freeman then singled to score McCloud.
Western Texas rounded out the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh. Kaleb Castillo reached on an error, stole second and advanced to third on a ground out by Camacho. Castillo then scored on a passed ball.
