WARRIORS REMAIN UNBEATEN IN ICCAC PLAY

Burlington, IA – The Indian Hills Softball team kept its unbeaten Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) record intact after sweeping Southeastern Community College on the road Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors have now won 13 consecutive contests.

Indian Hills took both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader from Southeastern, scoring a 5-3 win in the opening before shutting out the Blackhawks 5-0 in the nightcap. The Warriors move to 22-12 overall and are now 8-0 in league play, the lone undefeated team in conference action.

The Warriors used timely hitting along with strong pitching efforts in the circle to pickup their fourth consecutive win over the Blackhawks, and seventh win in the last 10 matchups. Sophomore Ava Smith (Waukee, IA/Waukee Northwest) tallied four hits on the afternoon to go along with four RBI.

Smith sparked the Warriors in game one with a three-run home run in the top half of the first inning. The Warriors tacked on one run in each of the next two innings to give starting pitcher Ashlynn Sheets (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa), this week's ICCAC Pitcher of the Week, plenty of comfort in the circle. The Blackhawks threatened late with three runs in the seventh before Jordyn Beck (Marion, IA/Linn-Mar) closed out the win, stranding two runners.

Smith and fellow sophomore Peyton Raley (Arvada, CO/Arvada West) tallied two hits in the opener while Sheets went 6.2 innings in the circle to secure her 11th win of the year. Sheets struck out four batters while issuing just one walk.

Sophomore Alivia Ruble (Lacona, IA/Southeast Warren) kept the Blackhawks at bay in game two as both sides went scoreless through the first four innings of play. Indian Hills finally hit paydirt in the top of the fifth as Courtney Locke (Bow, WA/Burlington-Edison), this week's ICCAC Athlete of the Week, doubled to drive in Mary-Paige Withers (Le Claire, IA/Pleasant Valley). Emma Scully (Des Moines, IA/Valley) followed up with an RBI double to push the lead to 2-0.

Smith tacked on an RBI double as part of a two-run sixth for a 4-0 advantage. Cassanda Benberg (Green Bay, WI/Pulaski) added an insurance run in the seventh with an RBI single.

Ruble tossed 4.1 innings of scoreless work, striking out a pair of batters before giving way to Beck for the final 2.2 innings. Beck allowed just two base hits to close out the game and secure her second save of the afternoon. With the win, Ruble improved to 9-5 on the year.

Indian Hills returns to action at R.L. Hellyer Field all weekend long with a pair of ICCAC doubleheaders. The Warriors will host Southwestern Community College at 1:00 PM on Saturday afternoon before hosting Iowa Western Community College at 12:00 PM on Sunday.
