Miami Dade Defeats Northwest Florida with Explosive Fourth Inning
The Miami Dade Sharks secured a 6-2 victory over Northwest in a competitive matchup this morning. The game was highlighted by a five-run fourth inning that gave Miami Dade a commanding lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Northwest Florida struck first in the second inning when catcher Preston Murphy doubled to drive in David Alvarez, giving the home team a 1-0 lead. However, the Sharks' offense ignited in the fourth inning, taking advantage of key opportunities. David Zamora's bases-clearing double was the centerpiece of the rally, driving in three runs. Adrian Poviones and Willy Mendez each contributed RBIs in the inning, showcasing Miami Dade's ability to capitalize on timely hitting.
On the mound, the Sharks relied on a team effort from their pitching staff. Starter Jack Garvey pitched three solid innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits while striking out two. Jordan Vargas, Alex Pazos, Jeffred Fermin, and Luke Helms combined to hold Northwest Florida to just one more run the rest of the way. Despite some late-game pressure, Fermin worked out of trouble in the sixth before Helms closed the door in the seventh.
Cian Copeland led the Sharks offensively with a 3-for-4 performance, including a double and two runs scored. Zamora finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Thomas White scored and stole a base.
For Northwest Florida, David Alvarez stood out with a 3-for-4 performance, including a double, but the team struggled to string hits together.
The Sharks will take the rest of the week off before taking traveling up to Alabama for a slate of games against Coastal Alabama, Mississippi Gulf Coast and Central Alabama.
