Playing host to Division II Monroe Community College, the Panthers baseball team had another rough outing, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to the Tribunes. The losses leave the Panthers at 4-12 on the season while Monroe improves to 8-6.

Game One: Monroe 13, Tompkins Cortland 0 (five innings)

Ryoma Tada (Tokyo, Japan/Kosei Gakuen) drew the starting assignment on the mound, and pitched well the first two times through the Monroe lineup. The sophomore right-hander worked into the fourth inning before turning the ball over the bullpen with the score 3-0. The fourth inning proved to be the tipping point as the Tribune plated seven runs on just two hits to blow the game open.

Game Two: Monroe 17, Tompkins Cortland 3 (five innings)

The Panthers fell behind early in game two, again largely due to walks, allowing four runs on just one hit in the first inning. Monroe kept adding on, eventually leading 12-0 in the third inning. The Panthers got on the board in the bottom of the third and added two more in the fourth, but the Tribunes kept adding on and ran away with the second game.

Looking ahead

The Panthers have another out-of-league date on Sunday when they play a single game at Ithaca College JV.
