BATAVIA, N.Y. – Dallas College Richland men's soccer team finished as the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III runner-up.
The Thunderducks fell to Mohawk Valley Community College, 2-1 in overtime of the national championship game Sunday. Richland has competed for the last nine NJCAA Division III titles, winning seven of them. The Thunderducks own 12 national championships in program history.
Joseph Min scored 2:29 into the second half as Richland (14-3-0) tied the game at a goal apiece. Alan Rivera had the assist. It was Min's third goal of the tournament and his 18th of the season. He was named the Offensive Player of the Tournament.
The Thunderducks outshot the Hawks, 9-2, in the second half.
Mohawk Valley's Souayibou Diop scored the game winner just under four minutes into the extra period on an assist from Santiago Molina Villafane. Tony Gjomemo had the Hawks' first goal on an assist from Davi Pena Moretzsohn in the 16th minute.
Richland goalkeeper Emmanuel Carmona made two saves. Mohawk Valley's Jaime Mata stopped three shots in a game where both teams had four shots goal. Carmona and Rivera were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Thunderducks finished with 13 shots, and the Hawks attempted seven, including two in overtime.
It is Richland's fifth national runner-up finish in 20 tournament appearances.
