Wolves Come Up Just Short Against Bobcats

ELLISVILLE – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team returned to action with a road game against Jones on Thursday, January 30. The Wolves showed grit and resilience throughout the game, but the Bobcats prevailed, 82-78.

The Wolves came out firing on all cylinders with a 12-6 scoring run to hold a lead by that margin with 16:58 left to play. The teams matched scoring totals with 12 points each as the Wolves pushed their lead to 24-18 with 9:54 remaining. The Bobcats responded with an 18-12 scoring run to tie the game at 36-36 with 4:57 left on the clock. However, the Wolves closed out the quarter with a 7-6 scoring run to hold a 43-42 lead as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The teams traded baskets and leads in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Bobcats held a 52-50 lead after a 10-7 scoring run with 15 minutes left on the clock. The Bobcats then used a 13-2 scoring run to push their lead to 65-52 with 9:45 left to play. The Wolves responded with a 14-7 scoring run to cut the Bobcats lead down to 72-66 with 4:02 left. The Wolves then went on a 9-4 scoring run to cut the lead down to 76-75 with 1:46 left in the second half. However, the Bobcats closed out the game with a 6-3 run to secure the 82-78 win.

The Wolves had two players with double-double performances as Dakotah Hillard (Hazlehurst) had a game-leading 28 points with ten rebounds while Deven Bates (Jackson) had 22 points with a game-leading 13 rebounds. Prince Ojukwu (Etobicoke, Ontario) had 19 points with six rebounds while Antonio Oatis (Hattiesburg) had seven points and Keisean Shields (Atoka, OK) had two points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 8-9 overall, 0-5 in conference play, and will return to action hosting Mississippi Delta on Monday, February 3. Tip-off between the Trojans and the Wolves is set for 7:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
