Carson's 21 points lead DMACC men's basketball team past Central CC, 87-67

 

Sophomore Trevian Carson of Des Moines scored 21 points to lead the DMACC men's basketball team to an 87-67 win over Central (Neb.) Community College (CCC) January 28 at Columbus, Neb.

 

Sophomore Da'Shon Fisher of Iowa City and freshmen Andrew Austin of Rock Rapids and Jaden Jefferson of Forney, Texas, joined Carson in double figures with 17, 17 and 14 points respectively as the Bears improved to 21-2 with their ninth consecutive victory and their 15th win in their last 16 games.

 

Carson, who leads DMACC in scoring with a 15.4 average, has scored 21 or more points in the last three games. He scored five points as the Bears opened the game with a 10-2 run and controlled the tempo the rest of the way. They led 52-33 at halftime.

 

DMACC, which moved from sixth to fifth in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), shot 50 percent in the win, making 32 of 64 field goal attempts, including 13-of-35 from three-point range. The Bears made 10 of 13 free throw attempts.

CCC shot 39 percent, connecting on 26 of 67 field goal attempts. The Raiders were 7-of-27 from three-point range and 8-of-9 from the free throw line.

 

Carson came away with eight rebounds, Austin had six and Jefferson grabbed five as DMACC controlled the boards, 31-25. Carson also topped the Bears in assists with four and Fisher led the way in steals with four.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will conclude a two-game road trip tonight in Sioux City where the Bears will face Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC). DMACC is 10-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). WITCC is 5-16 overall and 2-8 in conference play. The Comets' losses including a 105-58 setback to DMACC Dec. 11 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
