No. 18 Lansing women defeat GOCC
Stars claim conference-opening win.
CENTREVILLE — A Lansing Community College women's basketball team with an abundance of height and length lived up to its No. 18 national ranking in the NJCAA's Division II Saturday with a 66-38 win at Glen Oaks.
The Stars shot 43.8 percent from inside the arc for the game and were able to grab 17 offensive rebounds for 16 second-chance points. Lansing, which is now 12-4 overall and 1-0 in MCCAA Western Conference play, built a 31-15 halftime lead and finished strong by outscoring the Vikings 18-9 in the fourth quarter.
Kennedy Lockett led GOCC with eight points, Kylie Quist and Kaytlin Smith both had six, and Jordyn Partee, Jayla Parker-Vincent and Chelsi Zyla finished with five apiece. Amanda Barber had a field goal and Kulayjah Weller added a free throw. Tracy Ackley paced the squad with eight rebounds and Quist chipped in four steals.
The Vikings are 4-10 overall and 0-1 in the MCCAA Western Conference. They take the court again at home Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. against Marian University's Ancilla College.
