Indian River Sweeps 2025 Home Opener

FORT PIERCE, FL- Indian River hosted its first home game of the 2025 season on Thursday night, facing off against Hillsborough Community College. The River delivered an impressive performance, securing a commanding 10-3 victory.
The game began with excitement as Presley Smith tied the score at 1-1 in the first inning, ripping a clutch double down the left field line on an 0-2 count. Hillsborough briefly took the lead in the top of the second, going up 3-1, but The River quickly responded. In the bottom of the third, Anaise Piar ignited the offense with a double to center, followed by Jordyn Lillis' crucial triple to right field, plating two runs to reclaim the lead.
Indian River broke the game open in the fifth inning, erupting for five runs on five hits. Braylee Shields set the tone with a triple, followed by Piar's RBI single and a fielder's choice that brought in Lillis. Sophia Loreto kept the momentum going with a double, and Hezzy Seabrook capped off the scoring with an RBI single to make it 10-3.
On the mound, J'dah Girigorie was dominant, earning the win with 10 strikeouts while allowing just one hit over 4.1 innings. Offensively, The River tallied 12 hits, with standout performances from Piar, Shields, and Seabrook.
The Pioneers carried their momentum into the second game of the doubleheader, securing a 6-1 victory over Hillsborough. Ciara Gendron got things started early, delivering an RBI single in the bottom of the first to put The River on the board.
On the mound, Abril Gomez was lights out, allowing just one run on six hits over four innings while striking out five and issuing no walks. Girigorie then came in to close the door, earning the save.
At the plate, Piar and Gendron each collected two hits, while Sarah Phipps and Gendron drove in two runs apiece. The Pioneers were aggressive on the bases, swiping eight stolen bags, while their discipline at the plate resulted in five walks. Defensively, they played a clean game, committing no errors.
Indian River continues conference play on Saturday, March 1 traveling to face St. Petersburg at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
