"We have to stop shooting ourselves in the foot over and over and over. Itawamba is a really good team, but I still don't believe they are 30 points better than us. They play harder than we do, and they have coached better than we have both times we played them, so all the credit goes to coach Wilson, his staff, and their team. We've played an extremely tough non-region schedule in hopes to get us ready for December 2nd when Region play starts. We're 0-0 when it matters, and we have to take care of business one day at a time. We have a lot of things to correct and a lot of it is just how tough we have not been. We need to find that fire and play together for 40 plus minutes. There's no doubt in my mind that we have a really talented bunch, it's just on us to be more consistent and demand that from these guys everyday." Head coach Cody Hastings had to say afterwards.
ASU Mid-South jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead after an Santana Spivey 3 followed up a Spivey Dunk just seconds later after a steal by Hugh McFarland. The Indians settled in quickly, as they would quickly tie the game up at 8. A big reason the Indians were able to take a 10 point lead into the half was the Indians forced the Greyhounds into 12 first half turnovers. Most of those turnovers were unforced. Along with those turnovers, the Greyhounds would watch the Indians go to the free throw line 8 more times than the Greyhounds converting on all 8 of those extra opportunities.
The 2nd half started out much like the first game, as the Indians pushed their 10 point lead to 15 within the first 2 minutes of the half. From that point on, there looked to be 2 different ASU Mid-South teams playing from the different halves. The Indians would dominate the Greyhounds in multiple categories from points in the paint (48-26), second chance points (18-4), transition points (19-4), and points off turnovers (24-14).
The Indians were led by AJ Dent's 15 points, Kam Clark with 13, and Marcel Bridges with 10. With the win, the Indians move to 9-1 on the year.
ASU Mid-South was led by freshman CJ Washington's 18 points and 12 rebounds. His first double double as a Greyhound. Santana Spivey was the only other Greyhound in double figures with 11. Davonta Tucker chipped in 9 and Jaxson Yancy with 8. The loss drops the Greyhounds to 3-7 on the year. Up next for the Greyhounds, they play host to ASU Newport on December 2nd. Tip-off is set for 7:30.
