NICEVILLE, Fla. – The Northwest Florida State women's basketball team is off to an impressive 5-0 start in the 2024-25 season. Last week, the Raiders notched three wins, defeating East Mississippi 78-26, Santa Fe 62-30, and #11 Southern Idaho 56-42.

The team now faces its first road test of the season at the Florida Southwestern Classic in Fort Myers, Fla., where they'll take on Miami Dade on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and Florida Southwestern on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. 

This will mark the first of six games to be played away from Raider Arena over the next few weeks. The Raiders are not scheduled to play at home again until December 7 against Jones College.

 

FAST BREAKS

  • After their 5-0 start, the Raiders remained the #2 ranked team in this week's NJCAA National Poll, and the #1 team in the FCSAA Coaches' Poll.
  • The Raiders looking to build on their undefeated season with two more wins against Miami Dade and FSW. The Raiders defeated the Sharks last year 80-35 at Raider Arena and beat the Buccaneers in the first round of the FCSAA State Championship 68-42.
  • Northwest Florida has been stellar on the road of the last seven seasons, losing only seven games in that span. During that same period, the Raiders have only lost four neutral games.
  • The Raiders boast one of the best offensive units in the nation, ranking 28th in field goal percentage (44.3%), 32nd three-point percentage (33.3%), and 23rd in assists per game (18.3).
  • The team also has a strong knack for rebounding and defense, ranking 43rd in rebounds per game (42.8), 21st in forced turnovers a game (26.0), 23rd in steals a game (15.6), 11th in blocks per game (5.0) and 5th in points per game allowed (39.0).
  • The Raiders are led by veteran returners Mekhia Chase, Nevaeh Scott and Deborah Davenport, all averaging points in the double-figures: Chase (11.2), Scott (11.0) and Davenport (10.8).
  • One Freshman who's stood out in particular is Kamryn Corporan. The Miami native is averaging 6.8 points, 3.0 assists and 4.8 steals in five appearances this season.
