LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball hosted a double header against Millenia Atlantic University (MAU) on Saturday. The Lakehawk swept the day with a pair of wins over the Macaws, 9-5 and 22-0.
Game 1 – MAU 5, LSSC 9
The Lakehawks took a 4-0 lead in the second inning after a pair of walks from Tad Brooks and Edwin Melendez. Then, a timely sacrifice bunt from Colby White scored Brooks from third.
The Lakehawk offense was able to capitalize on several MAU errors to add three more runs on the board.
In the fourth inning, the Lakehawks loaded the bases for freshman Mason Blackburn to blast his first collegiate homerun and grand slam in one swing to extend the lead 9-5.
Matthew Dumas went 2-for-3 with one walk, one RBI, and one run scored. Ryan Villaman went 2-for-4 with one run scored.
Freshman Fabian Romero recorded the win on the mound with 5.0 innings pitched. He held the Macaws to no runs on one hit with eight strikeouts.
Game 2 – MAU 0, LSSC 22
The Lakehawk offense exploded in game two outhitting the Macaws 19 hits to four in the shutout victory.
Dumas, Eli Thurmond, Brady Byers, Osjun Rivas all recorded multiple hits and runs scored.
Rivas displayed one of the top performances offensively going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBIs.
Blackburn, Villaman, and Tanner Reid recorded two RBIs each.
Freshman Jack Johnson recorded his first win on the mound with 4.0 shutout innings pitched. In 14 batters faced, he allowed just three hits with six strikeouts.
With a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon, the Lakehawks improve to a 2-1 record on the season.

Lakehawk baseball will be back at The Hawks Nest on Monday, Jan. 27 for a single non-conference game against Tallahassee Community College at 2:00 p.m.
