Annabelle Rush hits grand slam in split with Chiefs

Annabelle Rush hits grand slam in split with Chiefs

It was a big split for the Cyclones in two battled-tested games with Waubonsee Community College.

GAME ONE
Both teams had big hits in this game with the Cyclones edging out the Chiefs 14-11. It was the final at-bat grand slam when Moraine Valley scored four runs after being down 11-10 that helped them prevail.

Trading leads, each team had offensive moments to take control. Down by one in the bottom of the seventh, Brialynn Mica (1-for-3, HR, 2 RBIs) reached first on a fielding error from a ground ball. Emma Hansen bunted to get on next before Brooklynn Sedlak (1-for-2, RBI) walked to load the bases. Marissa Walsh (1-for-4, 2B, 2 RBIs) grounded into a fielder's choice that got the out at home, stopping a run from scoring and giving the Cyclones two outs. With bases still loaded, Annabelle Rush (2-for-5, 4 RBIs) became the hero as she crushed the ball to center field for a grand slam and a victory for the Cyclones.

Additional RBIs were collected from Estelle Loth (2-for-5, 2B, 2 RBIs) and Stephanie Lohman (3-for-4, 2B, 3 RBIs). Sedlak was busy on the mound striking out nine and walking none.

GAME TWO
The bats were a little less active and competition was fierce as the Cyclones narrowly lost 4-3.

The Cyclones scored first and led until the third inning when the Chiefs collected three runs to take the lead. It wasn't until the sixth the Cyclones tied it but gave up the go-ahead run and were unable to counter in their final at-bat.

Moraine Valley only had five hits this game – Sedlak (1-for-4), Keira Clancy (1-for-3), Lohman (1-for-3) and Estelle Loth (2-for-3, 2 RBIs), who hit a two-run double.
