Jayhawks escape Alpena with Win
Jayhawks made keys plays down the stretch to secure a 75-72 road in vs Alpena

The Muskegon Community College Jayhawks defeated the Alpena Community College Lumberjacks 75-72 in thrilling fashion. After a very even first and second half between two teams, the Jayhawks and Lumberjacks were tied at 70 with just over two minutes to play Alpena guard Derian Williams was red-hot from the field all night for the Lumberjacks, scoring 36 of their 72 in the game, missed a contested 15-foot jump shot giving the Jayhawks time to set up their offense. Muskegon took advantage of the opportunity, and sophomore guard Kevon Washington nailed a clutch three-pointer with 1:45 on the game clock. The next possession Alpena's offense missed another contested mid-range jump shot , giving the Jayhawks a chance to extend their one possession lead to a two-possession lead. Sophomore guard Will Chye drove left, and back to his right towards the left elbow and found Kevon Washington on a back door cut to give Muskegon a 75-70 lead with just a minute to play. Alpena's Chas Stanek managed to get enough separation and finished at the rim to narrow Muskegon's lead back to three. A Muskegon turnover on the other end gave the Lumberjacks one chance to tie, but the Jayhawks' swarming defense barely allowed a shot attempt from Alpena, securing a Muskegon win. Sophomore guard Will Chye was the scoring leader for Muskegon with 18 points. Chye also finished with five rebounds and three steals. Freshman forward Ny'Zhem Marshall added another double-double to his resume, finishing with 16 points and ten rebounds. Washington chipped in 14 points and six rebounds. The Jayhawks win moves their record to 13-9 overall and 6-2 in conference play. Their next matchup is Wednesday, February 12th against Montcalm Community College at Montcalm. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
