Indian River Splits at Miami Dade

MIAMI, FL- Indian River splits doubleheader with Miami Dade to take the series. Indian River improves to 30-11 overall and 20-7 in Citrus Conference play. The River sits atop the Citrus Conference standings with a half-game lead over FSW with two weeks to go.

Indian River takes game one in ten innings, 8-5. The bottom of the lineup helped Indian River capture the win. Shawn Andrade, Matty Davis, and Jacob Suazo combined for four of the team's eight hits, driving in six runs. Miami Dade opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, putting up three to take an early 3-0 lead. The River chipped away, tying the game and then taking the lead in the sixth on a Jason Lashley RBI single, followed by a Jacob Suazo three-RBI double.

Indian River retook the lead in the top of the tenth thanks to singles by Lashley and Davis. Justin Minaberry earned his third win of the year, pitching four and one-third innings in relief. The right-hander surrendered zero hits and zero runs while striking out a career-high nine batters. Shane Lavin got the start for The River, going three and one-third innings, and Andris Barroso bridged the game to Minaberry, throwing two and one-third innings and striking out two. Jacob Suazo led the offense with three runs batted in.

Both teams put up a bunch of runs, but Indian River fell to Miami Dade, 8-7 in game two. The River took a quick 4-0 lead heading into the third inning, highlighted by Jacob Suazo's third home run of the year. The bottom of the third inning was a mess for The River. A couple of miscues by the defense allowed three unearned runs to cross the plate, letting the Sharks take the lead, 6-4.

Indian River tied things up the next inning, but allowed Miami Dade to come back and score another two runs to make it an 8-6 game. The River left the tying run at second in the top of the seventh, ending the game at 8-7. Indian River accumulated nine hits in the game. Eight different players from The River ended up getting a hit on the day, with Suazo leading the way with two. Dane Rossi threw two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out two in his first Citrus Conference action.

Indian River will be back in action this Thursday, April 14 as they hit the road for Tampa to play Hillsborough Community College.
