Florence-Darlington Technical College's Josh Campos delivered a standout performance with a home run and two RBIs, but Gaston College edged out an 8-2 victory in a tightly contested matchup on Saturday at Dailey Field. This loss snapped a five-game win streak for Florence-Darlington.
The Stingers struggled to generate offense, managing only two runs on six hits. Despite the efforts of the pitching staff, including Mike Joyce and Evan Carter, the team allowed eight runs, including four earned, across seven innings.
On the defensive side, the Stingers committed several errors, contributing to Gaston's scoring opportunities. Tristan Strickland and Jackson Cionek provided some offensive support with a hit each, but it was not enough to overcome Gaston's lead. Daniel Parris of Gaston was a significant threat, hitting a home run and scoring twice.
This matchup was the first of a three-game weekend series, providing Florence-Darlington with opportunities to adjust and come back stronger in the following games.
