College of Central Florida third baseman, Dawson Harman, had a two home run game for the second game in a row to lead the Patriots to a 10-4 win over Polk State College in Winter Haven on Thursday evening. The two home runs gives Harman 11 for the season which leads the state of Florida JUCOs and is third nationally. Harman is committed to play for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks next season.
The Patriots opened the game with three solo home runs in the top of the first inning. Marcus Bradshaw (2-3, 3R, HR, 2 RBI) connected first, followed immediately by Harman (2-5, 2 HRs, 4 RBI). After a groundout, Victor Martinez (3-5, HR, 2 RBI) hit his fifth home run of the season. The Eagles would respond in the bottom of the second inning with some power of their own as Liam O'Neil hit his third home run of the season to tie the game at 3-3. Polk State would take the 4-3 lead in the inning on a single by Josh Cruz, a two base error by Bradshaw, and a groundout from Jordan Thomas. But, that would be it offensively for the Eagles.
In the top of the third inning CF would regain the lead when Bradshaw singled to lead off, Jacob McKenzie would double to right field and Martinez grounded out to tie the game. An Anthony Diaz single and a wild pitch brought home a run to make it 5-4 and the Patriots never looked back.
Arturo Ormaza (3-0) entered the game with two on and two out in the bottom of the fourth inning in relief of starter Brayden Toro (3.2 IP, 4H, 3 ER) and enticed Eagles third baseman Cruz to fly out to right field, ending the threat. Ormaza ended the game throwing 2.1 shutout innings.
Armando Guirola's sacrifice fly in the fifth inning scored Martinez, who had singled and moved to third on a Diaz double. The Pats finished the scoring in the sixth when Harman hit a three-run home run to deep left field.
Cory Geinzer relieved Ormaza with no outs and two runners on in the seventh inning and preceded to get the next three batters in order with two via the strikeout. Geinzer completed two no hit, no run innings with three strikeouts. Cooper Ryan pitched a perfect ninth to close out the game.
The #6 FCSAA ranked Patriots (21-6, 8-5) will conclude their three game series against #4 ranked Polk State (18-12, 9-4) with a doubleheader on Saturday at Goodlett Field. First game begins at Noon.
