The Baton Rouge Bears and the East Central Warriors concluded their three-game series this afternoon at the Clark/Gay Baseball Complex. The Bears struggled to generate offense at the plate, and despite a solid pitching performance from sophomore right-handed pitcher Cade Robin, they dropped the series finale 6-1.
Neither team found their offensive rhythm in the first inning. The Warriors broke through to score a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. They added another run in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth, increasing their lead to 3-0 over the Bears.
East Central extended their lead with three runs in the eighth inning, taking a commanding 6-0 advantage. The Bears finally strung together some hits in the ninth inning and capitalized on some inconsistent pitching from the Warriors to score their first run. Dillion Bird led off with a single, Jackson Martin reached base on an error, and Trent Laporte drew a walk to load the bases. Cooper Martin then hit a single to right field, driving in Bird for the Bears' only run of the game.
Cade Robin started on the mound for the Bears and was charged with the loss. He pitched 7 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 9 hits while walking one and striking out 8. Briggs Ardoin pitched one inning in relief for the Bears. Cade Morrow started on the mound for the Warriors and earned the victory, pitching 6 innings without allowing any runs, giving up 4 hits, walking 1, and striking out 2.
East Central outhit Baton Rouge 11 to 6, and both teams were credited with one error during the game.
