DCCC Dominates RCSJ-Cumberland to Win 86-51
Vineland, NJ—The DCCC Phantoms played together cohesively and stayed ahead comfortably in an 86-51 win over Rowan College of South Jersey-Cumberland, raising their season record to 2-1.
Stats were strong, but mindset, teamwork, and execution were what really mattered, emphasized Dwayne Saunders, head coach of the Delaware County Community College men's basketball team.
"We put together two decent halves with more consistency wire to wire," he said. "On offense, we showed our mental toughness and stuck to our identity. Defensively, although there are still things to work on, I could see our discipline and the results of what we do in practice."
Every Phantom logged minutes on the floor and contributed. "Everybody had success," said Saunders, noting the importance of resting starters strategically as well as game time for players not in the regular rotation. "That success and experience will pay dividends come mid and late season."
Jabree Martin led the scoring for DCCC with 22 points, adding eight rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Tahmeire Manning went a perfect 8-8 from the floor while establishing strong presence on both the offensive and defensive glass.
Amir Wilson was one rebound shy of a double-double, contributing 10 points and nine boards off the bench. "Amir played to his strengths and excelled in the role we specifically gave him," Saunders said, adding praise for fellow bench contributor Evan Vandetti Spahr, who scored 13 points on 6-7 shooting. "Evan played hard consistently and gets us a lot of second-chance points."
DCCC hosts Williamson College of the Trades in the Phantoms' home opener November 14 at FiDonce Gym, 215 E 21st St, Chester, PA. Tipoff is at 7:00pm. "It's going to be a tough game, but now that we've played together consistently for all 40 minutes, we're feeling good," said Saunders.
