Nov. 5 North Arkansas College at Sedalia
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners basketball team used a big second quarter to erase an early deficit to defeat North Arkansas College 85-52 inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center in Sedalia on Tuesday, Nov. 5 in Sedalia.
SFCC jumped out to a 10-4 lead to begin the contest. North Arkansas responded with a run of their own to take a 16-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Roadrunners turned up their intensity on both ends of the floor. The Lady Roadrunners took the lead with a 10-0 run. SFCC outscored North Arkansas 26-6 in the second quarter to take control of the contest.
"We have to take more pride in our defense," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Nicole Collier. "Sometimes we get lackadaisical. I thought we stepped up defensively in the second quarter. We used ball pressure and some full-court defense. Offensively, we were able to get some good looks around the rim. Early in the first quarter, I thought we were a little selfish with some of our dribble penetration and forced some things instead of taking what the defense gave us. There are some good things coming from our depth, but we continue to work towards consistency. I'm excited about our group, but we need to continue to get better."
Freshman guard Sophia Edwin came off the bench to lead SFCC in scoring with 17 points. Freshman forward Ellie Buscher scored 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Buscher also tied for the team lead in steals with two. Freshman guard Malia Rodgers added 10 points. Sophomore guard Kimora McClure and freshman forward Shae Wright added 10 points each. Freshman guard Jonise Barcene dished out a team-high seven assists and tied for the team lead in steals with two.
