Lamar State College Port Arthur took a 33-29 lead into the locker room at the halftime break, led by sophomore guard Darel Reece. Kilgore, though, found the answer to the Seahawks' early dominance, outscoring the Hawks 41-23 down the stretch to take a 70-56 NJCAA Region 14 win at the Carl Parker Center on Saturday, December 7.
The Seahawks fall to 3-6 for the season and 0-2 in league play, while the Rangers improve to 6-3, 1-1 with the win.
Reece carved the Rangers defense to pieces early on, scoring 12 of his team-best 16 points in the first half. Kilgore managed to stifle his production in the second half, limiting him to just four points over the final 20 minutes. That's where Ke'Andre Jones, a sophomore forward, came alive, scoring all nine of his points off the bench in the second half to keep the Seahawks close.
It was a rough start to the second half with Kilgore outscoring the Hawks 14-4 over the first seven minutes that put LSCPA on its heels for the remainder of the game. Freshman forward Joshua Olutayo led the Rangers with 17 points while teammate Kaiden Myers, a freshman guard, added 16.
The Seahawks return to action with a road trip to Brenham to take on Blinn College on Wednesday, December 11. That game tips off at 7 p.m. and can be seen live on the Seahawks athletics website.
