Toms River, NJ - Ocean County College Women's Basketball slid to an overall record of 1-1 this season following a heartbreaking 57-55 loss to the visiting Panthers of Passaic County CC on Tuesday (11/12).
After a slow start, the Vikings seemed to hit their stride midway through the 1st half, and chased the Panthers throughout the contest. An injury to starting guard Angie Matthews slowed the team's momentum, and there were struggles with free throw shooting (19 for 36) and shot selection (4 for 31 from the 3 point line) that allowed Passaic to remain in control. Ocean freshman guards Brooke Schmidt and Tatiana Hernandez each posted double-doubles this evening, with Schmidt scoring a team-leading 15 points and 14 rebounds, and Hernandez scoring 11 while pulling down 11 rebounds. Freshman guard Kaliana Kearney earned 7 steals and scored 8 in the loss as well.
The Vikings will return to their home court on Thursday, November 14, when they host RCSJ Gloucester at 5 P.M.
