Trojans Advance to Semifinals of the NJCAA Championship
#13 Colby upsets #5 Northeastern in straight sets
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Colby Community College volleyball team advanced to the semifinal round at the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship after a decisive three-set sweep over Northeastern Junior College Thursday night in the quarterfinal matchup, 25-17, 25-20, and 25-15 at the Dunn Center on the campus of Austin Peay University.
The Trojans, who also swept Blinn College in their opening-round game on Nov. 20, play defending back-to-back national champions Florida Southwestern State College tonight at 7 p.m. Colby enters as the tournament's 13-seed, while Florida Southwestern is the top seed. Colby faced the Buccaneers in the first round of last year's national tournament and lost in three sets.

Blinn College, 4th seed (25-20, 25-16, 25-20)
Celia Mbaya led the Trojans with 13 kills and a .321 hitting percentage, while Karlotta Kattai added 11 kills and three aces. Amanda Caputi orchestrated the attack with 37 assists, contributing three aces.
Defensively, Colby dominated at the net with 43 digs and four total blocks. Camila Canedo anchored the back row with 18 digs, while Viola Giangreco chipped in nine kills and solid defense. Blinn recorded 38 digs and struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities, particularly in the second set.
The Trojans tallied 14 service aces, showcasing a well-rounded performance that kept the Buccaneers off balance throughout the match. Blinn managed just one ace and committed three service errors.
Northeastern Junior College, 6th seed (25-17, 25-20, and 25-15)
Colby and Northeastern faced off on August 30 in Laramie, Wyo., with the Trojans falling 3-2. It was a different story on Thursday, as the Trojans put together a consistent three-set sweep.
Colby hit .223 as a team with 43 kills. Sophomore Celia Mbaya led all players with 16 kills on a .324 hitting percentage, while Chiara Binda added eight kills and two block assists. Setter Amanda Caputi facilitated the offense with 37 assists, adding nine digs and a service ace.
The Trojans controlled the match with 45 digs and two solo blocks. Libero Camila Canedo anchored the back row with 10 digs and contributed five service aces.
