Bears drop series finale to the #2 LSUE Bengals

The Baton Rouge Bears faced off against the #2 LSUE Bengals in the final game of their three-game LCCAC series this afternoon at Bengal Stadium on the LSUE campus. The Bears struggled to contain the Bengals' potent offense, resulting in a 13-3 loss in eight innings.
The Bengals opened the scoring with four runs in the first inning, quickly taking a 4-0 lead over the Bears. They added another run in the second inning to extend their lead to 5-0.
The Bears managed to get on the board in the third inning when Jake Brouillette and Jacob Covington hit back-to-back singles, allowing Cooper Martin, who had reached base earlier due to an error, to score. They added another run in the fourth inning when Cooper Martin hit a double to right field, bringing in Trent Laporte, who walked.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Bengals responded by scoring again, now leading 6-2. They manufactured another run in the fifth inning, scoring on a passed ball, and after five innings, held a 7-2 advantage.
Conner Kleinpeter led off the sixth inning with a pinch hit solo home run to left-center field, bringing the Bears to within 7-3. However, the Bengals loaded the bases, and Bears pitcher Grayson Davis was called for a balk, allowing one run to score. T. LeBlanc then hit a three-run home run to center field, increasing the Bengals' lead to 11-3.
The Bengals added an insurance run in the eighth inning when A. Fuselier hit a solo home run to left field. They would score again in the eighth inning, concluding the game with a 13-3 run-rule victory over the Bears.
Cade Robin started on the mound for the Bears and suffered the loss, pitching four innings and allowing six runs on nine hits while walking four and striking out five. Klayton Wingfield (2.0 innings) and Grayson Davis (2.0 innings) provided relief for the Bears. C. Tarango started for the Bengals and earned the win, pitching six innings, allowing two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out eight.
The Bengals out-hit the Bears 16 to 5 and committed two errors compared to one for the Bears.

Shawn Driggers went 1 for 4
Cooper Martin went 1 for 2 with 1 run
Conner Kleinpeter went 1 for 1 with 1 run, 1 RBI, 1 home run

With this loss, the Bears fell to 4-27 overall and 0-3 in conference play, while the Bengals improved to 30-1 and 3-0. LSUE now leads the all-time series against Baton Rouge with 76 wins to 15 losses.

The Bears will continue conference play next weekend, March 29-30, when they host the Delgado Dolphins at Pete Goldsby Field. They will also celebrate Alumni Weekend, welcoming back all former Bears Baseball players to Pete Goldsby.
