
NIACC rolls past Mount Mercy JV, 123-107
MASON CITY - The NIACC men's basketball team cruised to a 123-107 non-conference victory over the Mount Mercy University Junior Varsity Thursday night in the NIACC gym.
The 123 points is the most points in a game for the Trojans since they scored 101 in a 106-101 loss to Northeast CC on Jan. 27, 2024. The 123 points is the 11th most points in a game for the Trojans in NIACC men's basketball history.
NIACC was led by sophomore guard Omarion Roberts, who scored a career-high 36 points on 12 of 17 shooting from the field. Roberts was 5 of 5 from 3-point range and 7 of 8 from the free-throw line.
The last time a NIACC men's basketball player scored at least 30 points in a game since Wyatt Helming scored 33 points Black Hawk College-Moline on Nov. 4, 2023.
Also for the Trojans, freshman Lance Helming scored 25 points. Brayden Drea scored 17 points, Cameron Reigard scored 14 points and Randy McClendon scored 11 points.
Drea and Reigard both had five assists. Zion Wright led the Trojans with eight rebounds and Helming was next in line with seven rebounds.
NIACC (2-1 overall) returns to action Friday and Saturday at the DMACC Classic in Boone. The Trojans face Black Hawk College at 5 p.m. on Friday and the Grand View University Junior Varsity at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
