
River Grove, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team was edged in two games at Triton on Tuesday.
The Spartans move to 8-4 overall.
Game One: ECC 8, Triton 9
Jaden Alberson made the start and registered four strikeouts in four innings. Justin Ceisel pitched two innings of relief.
Triton scored five runs to lead the game 5-0 after two innings.
ECC countered with seven runs in the top of the third, taking advantage of several freebies from the defense. Matthew Brunscheen and Chris Lara walked followed by Nick Weaver, Brendan Campbell and Aiden Kashuba being hit by a pitch. Cole Clemens grounded into a fielder's choice to allow Weaver to score followed by a sacrifice fly from Daniel Blickhan, pushing Campbell across home plate. Peter Mitchell hit an RBI single, Andrew Flynn grounded into an RBI fielder's choice before he advanced to third on Brunscheen's single and stole home to make it a 7-5 ballgame.
Weaver led off the fourth with a double and stole third during Kashuba's at bat. Clemens hit it into a sacrifice fly for Weaver to score the eighth run of the game.
The Trojans scored three in the bottom of the inning to take the lead back at 8-9. ECC found themselves in scoring position twice, but were unable push any runs across as they suffered the loss.
Game Two: ECC 2, TC 3
The teams held each other scoress through three as Elgin saw three up and three down each inning. Casey Farrell pitched the entire game and registered four strikeouts.
Weaver walked, made it to second on Clemens' groundout and scored on Austin Alonso's single to left field in the top of the fourth.
Triton scored one in the bottom of the inning to tie up the game 1-1.
Brunscheen tripled in the fifth followed by an RBI single from Lara to score the second ECC run of the game.
The Trojans tied it up again in the bottom of the inning.
Triton hit it into a walk-off single to hand Elgin the 2-3 loss.
The Spartans host No. 17 Madison on Friday at 2 p.m.
