Sharks Fall Against Seminole State, 6-4
Despite a late push, Miami Dade came up short in a 6-4 loss to Seminole State College of Florida on Saturday.
Seminole State jumped out to an early lead, capitalizing on defensive miscues by the Sharks. The Raiders plated three runs in the first inning, aided by two errors from shortstop Adrian Poviones and a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded. They tacked on two more in the second, extending their lead to 5-0.
Miami Dade responded in the third inning when Talan Beckford doubled to drive in David Zamora, followed by a Cian Copeland RBI single that brought Beckford home, cutting the deficit to 5-2.
The game remained tight until the sixth inning, when Miami Dade chipped away further. Santiago Carriles-Alvarado and Denixon Suarez each drove in runs on fielder's choices, bringing the Sharks within striking distance at 5-4.
However, Seminole State added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single to right field, securing the 6-4 victory.
On the mound, Luis Rodriguez took the loss for Miami Dade, allowing five runs (two earned) over one inning. The bullpen, led by Luke Helms, Jose Villegas, and Alex Pazos, kept the game within reach, surrendering just one additional run over the final five innings.
Austin Waring went the distance for Seminole State, tossing a complete game with eight strikeouts, limiting Miami Dade to six hits.
Beckford and Copeland led the Sharks offensively, each recording two hits and an RBI. However, Miami Dade struggled to capitalize on opportunities, leaving key runners stranded.
