Williams Leads MCC vs Kirtland
Jayhawks get win 16 on the year over Kirtland
March 3, 2025
A strong second half performance pushed the Jayhawks past the Kirtland Community College Firebirds 76-53 Saturday night. The Jayhawks were matched with a Kirtland squad that were facing playoff implications. The first half was even sided, and the Jayhawks outscored the Firebirds 35-29 heading into the half. In the second half, the Jayhawks controlled the pace of the game, but the Firebirds late shot clock scoring and timely three-point shooting kept them within arm's reach of the Jayhawks, and the Jayhawks led 43-52 with less than ten minutes to play. But the Jayhawks found their stride, and their fastbreak offense could not be stopped in the last eight minutes of play. The Jayhawks closed out the game on a staggering 23-10 run. Sophomore guard Darius Williams led the team in scoring, finishing with 20 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Freshman forward Ny'Zhem Marshall completed an incredible feat, completing a triple-double with points, rebounds and blocks. Marshall finished with 19 points, eleven rebounds, and ten blocks. Sophomore guard Will Chye completed a double-double of his own, adding 19 points and ten rebounds. The win moves the Jayhawks' record to 16-11 overall, 9-4 in conference play. The Jayhawks' next matchup is their last of the regular season, and they will face-off against North Central Michigan College on Tuesday, February 25th at Bartels-Rhode Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM, and sophomores players will be celebrated for their time and dedication to the program.
