Bears Win Home Opener!

The Baton Rouge Bears opened the 2024-25 season of Bears Basketball with a blowout victory against the West Academy Eagles 104 to 72, in the Bears Den.
The Bears would jump on the board first with a quick six points from back-to-back three pointers from Jack King and Courtney McCarthy. The Eagles would pull within one 6-5 with 18 minutes remaining in the half. The Bears would open a seven-point lead when Courtney McCarthy would connect on six straight points, 14-7. The Bears would build an eleven-point lead at the halfway mark of the first half, 29-18. The Bears would continue to play loose and free to increase their lead to 55 to 36 at the half over the West Academy Eagles.
The second half was more of the same for the Bears as they would dominate on the boards and get easy buckets. The Bears would outscore the Eagles 49 to 36 in the second half to grab a commanding 104 to 72 victory.
The Bears were led in scoring by Sophomore Guard Courtney McCarthy with 27 points, while the West Academy Eagles were led in scoring by Justin Walker with 24 points.
With the victory the Bears improved to 1-0 on the young season.
Bears Highlights
Courtney McCarthy led the Bears with 27 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist.
McKennis Savoie came off the bench to score 13 points with 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.
Jack King added 11 points and 2 rebounds.
The Bears will be back in action this Thursday November 7, 2024, as they travel to Baytown, Texas to take on Lee College at 6 pm.
