Jackson, TN – The Jackson State Community College (JSCC) Softball team put on a commanding performance, sweeping Motlow State in back-to-back victories on Friday. The Greenjays secured a decisive 10-2 win in the first game before edging out a thrilling 3-2 extra-inning victory in Game 2.
Game 1: JSCC Offense Fires on All Cylinders in 10-2 Victory
The Greenjays wasted no time setting the tone, exploding for five runs in the first inning. Offensive contributions from Elizabeth Vales, Ivy Knight, Brea Martin, Courtney Lynch, and Ashlyn Berkley powered JSCC to an early lead. The momentum carried into the second inning, highlighted by Mallory Woodward's home run and Brea Martin's two-RBI double.
On the defensive side, Carmen Ward delivered a stellar performance on the mound, recording four strikeouts over five innings. Elizabeth Vales and Gracie Ausley also made key defensive plays to keep Motlow State in check.
At the plate, Ivy Knight went a perfect 4-for-4, while Courtney Lynch added a 3-for-3 performance. Mallory Woodward's bat remained hot, contributing a home run, a sacrifice bunt, and a sac fly.
Game 2: Greenjays Grind Out 3-2 Walk-Off Win
JSCC found themselves in an early deficit after Motlow State plated two runs in the first inning. However, the Greenjays responded immediately, tying the game 2-2 behind clutch hits from Elizabeth Vales and Mallory Woodward.
The game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the eighth inning, when Ivy Knight delivered the game-winning double, bringing in the go-ahead run.
Pitching was a key factor in the victory, with Eva dominating on the mound with five strikeouts. Brea Martin and Carmen Ward each added crucial strikeouts to keep Motlow State at bay.
Offensively, Mallory Woodward stood out once again, tallying a triple and reaching base on an error, while Ashlyn Berkley chipped in with a sac fly and single.
JSCC will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their next matchup vs Volunteer State.
