
Decatur, MS-The East Central Community College Lady Warriors suffered a tough 72-60 defeat at the hands of Lawson State Community College on Monday night at Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium in Decatur, Mississippi.
Despite a slow start that saw East Central down 23-11 after the first quarter, the Lady Warriors fought back with a strong second-quarter performance, outscoring Lawson State 23-13 to cut the halftime deficit to 36-34. However, a dominant third quarter by the visitors pushed the game out of reach as Lawson State built a 57-44 lead heading into the final period.
Sophomore Mikayla Holifield led the Lady Warriors with a team-high 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Erica Lyons contributed 11 points, including a perfect 5-for-7 performance from the free-throw line. Kelviana Parhm added 10 points and dished out four assists, while reserve Jakaylin York provided a spark off the bench, scoring six points on two three-pointers.
Lawson State capitalized on its balanced scoring attack and dominance in the paint, where it consistently found success. East Central battled hard on the boards, finishing with 35 rebounds, but struggled to find a rhythm offensively, shooting just 16.7% from beyond the arc.
